Dear fellow supporters:
Thank you so much for your wonderful support and words of encouragement.
WHAT SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN is that this case is still not over. The DA dismissed the case WITHOUT prejudice - meaning that she still wants to leave the case in such a manner that she could re-charge Cindy at some point in the future!
ON FRIDAY, MAY 30, Cindy and Mr. Bloom returned to court. The DA had argued that the court didn't have the authority to hear the motion to dismiss with prejudice. Cindy prevailed when the court advised it does indeed have this authority.
ON FRIDAY, JULY 18, they will return to court for the Hearing of the Motion to Dismiss WITH Prejudice - a move that would prevent prosecutors from re-filing charges against Cindy.
IN ALL OF THE EXCITEMENT of the last few weeks since Cindy was released, one thing seems to have fallen off the radar. It's my duty to bring this topic back up on the screen once again.
MR. BLOOM MUST BE PAID. We need to understand that the contract between Todd Tice (Cindy's cousin) and Mr. Bloom - to defend Cindy - was more than fair, but there is still an outstanding obligation of over $45K. Our support group is now 235 members strong. If each of us would connect with just three other people in our group of family and friends to ask for their help, and each person would then donate $20, we would then have a great payment for Mr. Bloom. Now that Cindy's innocence has been proven, our family and friends will probably listen more attentively.
The necessary steps are being taken for Cindy to obtain financial recovery, but it is a slow process. The administrator of the Defense Fund, Todd Tice, still plans to repay all donors who wish to be reimbursed as soon as possible.
Please keep in mind, Cindy lost everything because of her arrest. Although she will be entitled to a $100 per day compensation for her incarceration, this is a very long process that includes going through the California state legislature. It will be quite some time before she sees any money.
After Mr. Bloom is paid in full, other funds raised will be used to repay those who have contributed money to the defense fund, in the following ways: * the individual who loaned money to the defense fund in February of 2007, when Mr. Bloom was hired to file the Motion for a New Trial, * any donors or loaners who wish to be repaid, * and for Cindy to get her life back on track. The money to hire Mr. Bloom in February of 2007 was a short-term loan, as you may remember, which has turned into a much longer term than we ever expected.
Who do you know that could help? Friends, family, friends of family? Call them, email them, do whatever it takes to let them know they have an opportunity to help someone who so deserves it. Cindy's freedom is wonderful, the media attention has been outstanding, but the fact remains - Cindy still needs our help.
Donation information is at the bottom of this page. Please feel free to send any ideas or questions you may have.
Again - thank you all for everything you've done.
Warm regards, nan Family Friend and Website Administrator
